The Seattle Mariners need to make a big move in free agency or on the trade market in the coming weeks. They were one of the best teams in the American League this year, but they’ve lost some talent in free agency.

Jorge Polanco reportedly agreed to a deal with the New York Mets on Saturday. With Polanco headed to a new team, the Mariners will need to replace his production in the lineup and on the infield dirt.

FanSided’s Christopher Kline predicted the Mariners would add Alec Bohm from the Philadelphia Phillies in a big offseason trade.

Philadelphia Phillies infielder Alec Bohm

“The Seattle Mariners could be in the market to replace Eugenio Suárez at the hot corner,” Kline wrote. “Alec Bohm is a very different sort of bat — a line drive-hitting doubles machine — but he could be a more tenable fit behind Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodríguez in the lineup. Whereas Suárez is boom-or-bust in nature, Bohm has a lower ceiling but a higher floor.”

The Mariners have already re-signed Josh Naylor to a new deal this offseason, so their budget in free agency is bound to be limited. It’s hard to imagine the Mariners will be able to find a player of Bohm’s caliber in free agency without breaking the bank.

It would likely cost the team a bit of prospect capital to get a deal done, but adding the All-Star infielder to the middle of the lineup alongside Cal Raleigh, Naylor, and company would be a huge step in the right direction for Seattle.
