The New York Mets have been crushed in free agency this offseason. They’ve lost players like Tyler Rogers, Pete Alonso, and Edwin Diaz while only adding the duo of Devin Williams and Jorge Polanco. Polanco reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with the Mets on Saturday.
The Mets need to add an outfielder with pop to their roster. There are a few options on the market, but there’s a chance the team could buy low on Chicago White Sox slugger Luis Robert Jr.
FanSided’s Christopher Kline predicted the Mets would land Robert in a trade this winter after acquiring Polanco in free agency.

“The New York Mets have lost Brandon Nimmo, Pete Alonso and Edwin Díaz so far this winter, a real shell-shocking sequence of events for fans,” Kline wrote. “One of the clearest areas of need for GM David Stearns is the outfield. Luis Robert Jr., technically under club control through next season (he has a $20 million club option for 2027), is due for a change of scenery and could flourish in Queens.”
Robert would be a solid fit in New York, but he’s a risky player to acquire.
At his best, he could slug 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in a season. But at his worst, his bat is a liability in the lineup.
To even things out, Robert is a good defender in the outfield. At the worst, he’d be a star defender for the Mets, but this idea comes down to his price tag in a potential trade. If it’s cheap, the Mets can afford to take a flier on the slugger.
