It has officially reached the point in the MLB offseason, again, where Luis Robert Jr has been brought up in trade discussions. As the Chicago White Sox are coming off a season in which they finished with a 60-102 record, it is clear that they need to still restructure the team, and gain the assets necessary to fully rebuild.
The player on the team that can get them those assets is Luis Robert Jr. The White Sox need to fully go through with trading Robert Jr this offseason, and the team that makes sense to trade for him is the San Diego Padres.

The San Diego Padres enter the 2026 MLB offseason with plenty of questions as they continue to try and improve as a team, but still are stuck in the National League West Division chasing the Los Angeles Dodgers. If they want to start closing the gap on the Dodgers, they need to do it now before the Dodgers pull too far ahead.
One way in which the Padres can do so is by adding another slugger to their lineup, and the perfect candidate for them to trade for is Luis Robert Jr.
The last two seasons Luis Robert Jr has found himself in a bit of a slump, but still has produced at an impactful rate with a .233/.297/.364 slash line with 14 home runs and 53 RBIs, while adding on 33 stolen bases. He was just an All-Star back in 2023, where he had a slash line of .264/.315/.542 with 38 home runs and 80 RBIs with 20 stolen bases.
On a team like the Padres, playing in the outfield alongside Fernando Tatis Jr., and on a team with the winning culture of San Diego, Luis Robert Jr should be able to get back on track, and prove to be a long-term star the Padres can build around going forward.
