TAMPA — A Tampa native is signing a massive deal with the Baltimore Orioles.
Plant High School graduate Pete Alonso is leaving the New York Mets after spending his entire seven-year career with them.
In joining the Orioles, he moves into the American League East along with the Tampa Bay Rays.
ESPN reports the deal is for five years, $155 million.
Alonso played his college baseball at the University of Florida.
He hit 264 home runs with the Mets, including 38 last year, when he also led the AL in doubles with 41.
He has made five National League All-Star teams and is 49 hits away from reaching 1,000 for his career.
