There are still plenty of holes in the Mets lineup with two months to go until spring training begins but the front office filled in one of those gaps on Saturday afternoon.
The Mets have brought in infielder Jorge Polanco on a reported two year deal to add some pop back to the lineup after Pete Alonso signed with the Orioles and Brandon Nimmo was traded to the Rangers over the last month. The Athletic’s Will Sammon was the first to report the news of Polanco’s signing.

With Polanco, the Mets now have a switch-hitting option who can plug in at designated hitter or potentially first base. A season ago, the 32-year-old slugged 26 home runs and provided 78 RBI and 30 doubles with a .265 average in 138 games for the Mariners.

Seattle Mariners second baseman Jorge Polanco (7) runs after hitting a home run against the Detroit Tigers in the fourth inning during game two of the ALDS round of the 2025 MLB playoffs on Oct. 5, 2025, at T-Mobile Park.
The club is far from finished with its offseason work but it can now at least field a respectable team heading into the new year. There remains a clear need in the outfield, whether it is in left or center field or both. First base could still be bolstered, as well, with Polanco having limited experience at the position.
With that being said, here is how the Mets’ lineup currently stacks up following the addition of Polanco:
