Report: White Sox have ‘shut down every inquiry’ about ex-Red Sox catcher

The Red Sox had interest in reuniting with Kyle Teel, but it appears the catcher won’t be coming back to Boston, or leaving Chicago, for that matter.

The White Sox have “shut down every inquiry” about the 23-year-old, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported.

“They have no desire to trade an athletic, left-handed-hitting catcher who can control the strike zone and run,” the MLB inside wrote.

MassLive’s Sean McAdam reported that the Red Sox showed “at least some interest” in bringing Teel back, but that re-acquiring him would be easier said than done.

Teel was part of the package sent to Chicago for Garrett Crochet and was part of Boston’s strong prospect pool that included Marcleo Mayer, Roman Anthony and Kristian Campbell.

In 78 games for the White Sox in 2025, Teel hit .273 with eight home runs and 35 RBI with a .411 slugging percentage.

The Red Sox could certainly benefit from adding depth to their catcher position. They have Carlos Narvaez and Connor Wong, though the latter struggled mightily last season, but Boston is confident he’ll bounce back in 2026.
