Gary Sanchez is one of the more intriguing catcher free agents for this MLB free agency cycle. He is coming off an injury-riddled season with the Baltimore Orioles in which he played just 30 games as he dealt with a knee sprain.
After having a rough 2024 season where he had a .220/.307/.392 slash line, it makes things even more difficult for Gary Sanchez as he tries to find a team to sign with for his 12 season in MLB.
One team that could very well make sense to sign him and take the chance on him making a bounce back at 33 years old is the Texas Rangers.

Gary Sanchez Signs With the Texas Rangers in MLB Free Agency
As the Texas Rangers try to navigate throughout the 2026 MLB offseason, they will have to do so by making moves that won’t lead to them breaking the bank as they try to manage their payroll. This approach is what led to them already non-tendering Jonah Heim, but also left them with a void at the catcher spot.
Without Jonah Heim on the team, it now would leave Kyle Higashioka as the starter, and with his struggles he has shown over his career, he can’t be trusted if the Rangers hope to field a competitive roster in 2026. Behind Kyle Higashioka it doesn’t get much better as it is Willie Maclver.
Signing Gary Sanchez would give them the better security they need at the catcher position heading into 2026, while also being able to sign him on a manageable contract that would stay within their budget.
If Gary Sanchez can get back on track, he can bring a major boost to the Rangers’ lineup. He is a career .224/.309/.461 hitter with 189 home runs and 509 RBIs. Between this offense, as well as defense he provides behind the plate, his signing could help pay off for the Rangers due to his potential and experience he would provide.
