While San Francisco Giants fans are looking forward to seeing new manager Ton Vitello work with an MLB pitching rotation for the first time, there’s a name still on fans’ minds.

And that name is ace pitcher Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers.

When recently asked during a fan Q&A “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) session on Reddit, MLB.com Giants reporter Maria Guardado responded to a fan’s inquiry around Peralta.

Guardado was asked if the Giants’ front office might consider making a trade for a big-name arm at this time.

“Definitely,” Guardado said. “The Giants are reportedly among the teams interested in the Brewers’ Freddy Peralta, so I could see them swinging a trade for him.

“He only has one year of team control remaining, but he’s super tight with Willy Adames, so maybe he’d be open to staying in San Francisco beyond 2026,” Guardado said.

“The Twins don’t seem inclined to trade Joe Ryan and Pablo López, but there are still several other starters who could be fits for the Giants, including the Nationals’ MacKenzie Gore and the Royals’ Kris Bubic (a Bay Area native and Stanford alum).”

In the past three seasons, Peralta has lowered his ERA from 3.86 in 2023 to 3.68 in 2024 and 2.70 in 2025. In his eight major-league seasons, Peralta has an overall record of 70-42 with a 3.59 ERA and a WHIP of 1.13. He’s also pitched more than 160 innings in those three seasons, showing that he has some durability out there on the mound.

According to Baseball Savant, Peralta relied on four pitches last season: A four-seamer, a changeup, a curveball, and a slider. He threw his four-seamer 53.5% of the time with his changeup coming in second at 21.2%.

Imagine having Peralta join a Giants staff already buoyed by Logan Webb. That’d make for some tasty pitching performances in Oracle Park during the 2026 MLB season.

Would the Giants consider giving up prospects, like a Bryce Eldridge, to get Peralta? They’d have to make any deal truly a sweet one for the Brewers to even consider.

With about 100 days left before Opening Day of the 2026 MLB season rolls around, San Francisco’s front office has to think carefully about any deal involving Peralta.
