Four outstanding Washington County softball players etched their name onto the honorable mention Blue Bell/Texas Sportswriters Association all-state softball teams.

Second baseman Paige Fritsch, center fielder Amaya Williams and pitcher Bailey Glaesmann all earned honorable-mention spots on the Class 2A all-state list for Burton. Brenham senior shortstop Avery Maurer also earned honorable-mention accolades in Class 5A.

Fritsch, Williams and Glaesmann all helped Burton go on its deepest softball playoff run in two decades and reach the regional semifinal. All three players not only played pivotal roles in the playoffs, but also in guiding the Lady Panthers to their second undefeated district title in the last three seasons.

Glaesmann served as Burton’s primary pitcher for her final year as a senior. She earned a 1.96 earned run average over 118 innings in 21 games. Glaesmann struck out 162 batters this spring with just 35 walks and 54 total runs allowed. Of the 54 runs allowed, only 33 runs were earned.

She struck out 10 or more batters in eight different games this year. Her best effort came on April 4 in a five inning no-hitter against Iola. She struck out 14 batters with just two walks against the Lady Bulldogs.

Glaesmann earned the District 26-2A pitcher of the year award with a 1.05 ERA in district play. She had a strikeout-to-walk ratio of seven during the district slate with five district games of 10 or more strikeouts.

Her ERA rose slightly to 2.26 in the playoffs, but she still earned 21 strikeouts to just six walks. Glaesmann left 20 runners on the bases in the postseason compared to just 12 runs allowed (seven earned).

She will continue her softball career at Alvin Community College in 2026.

Burton’s two other honorable-mention all-state players shined in their junior campaigns.

Fritsch took the spotlight in both district play and the playoffs a year after having to miss the 2024 softball season due to injury. She hit for a .613 average in district play to earn the co-district MVP award.

Her district efforts highlighted a tremendous overall season for the junior. Fritsch earned a .453 average with seven home runs, 32 RBI, three triples and four doubles.

Fritsch collected nine multi-hit games this spring, including a four-hit game on April 11 against Milano to help Burton clinch the district championship.

She also performed well in the playoffs, earning a .400 average with six hits, two home runs and six RBI. Fritsch also drew a team-leading seven walks in the postseason.

Fritsch was one of two second baseman listed on the Class 2A honorable mention list, joining Summer Smith out of Cumby.

Williams led the Lady Panthers in numerous offensive categories this season. She earned a .455 average with 37 RBI, 17 extra-base hits, 16 walks, a .566 on-base percentage, a 1.015 slugging percentage and a 1.581 OPS. All of those figures either led outright or tied for the lead among the Lady Panthers.

Burton’s center fielder earned seven multi-hit efforts in 2025, including multi-hit efforts in both of the Lady Panthers’ bi-district games against Big Sandy. Williams went 5 for 8 in the series with nine RBI, including a multi-home run performance in Game 1 of the April 24 doubleheader.

The first round highlighted an overall tremendous postseason for Williams. She hit for a .500 average in the playoffs, leading Burton with 12 RBI, 10 hits and three home runs.

Maurer, meanwhile, guided Brenham back to the playoffs this spring after a year’s absence. She led the Cubettes with a .402 average at the plate while collecting 43 hits, 29 RBI, seven home runs and 15 other extra-base hits.

The senior shortstop earned 10 multi-hit outings this year with four three-hit performances. Two of her three-hit games came in back-to-back district contests in March with a 3-for-5 performance against Montgomery and a 3-for-4 effort at Huntsville.

Her three-hit effort against Montgomery was highlighted by a walk-off triple.

She continued to stand out in the postseason, hitting for a .368 average with six RBI on seven hits. Maurer earned a hit in all six of Brenham’s playoff games, allowing her to end the season on a 11-game hitting streak.

Maurer will continue her softball career at the Division I level next year at Sam Houston.
