Another former Texas Rangers reliever has found a new home.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Shawn Armstrong has agreed to a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Cleveland Guardians. The new deal reportedly includes a mutual option.
Right-handed reliever Shawn Armstrong and the Cleveland Guardians are in agreement on a one-year, $5.5 million contract that includes a mutual option, sources tell ESPN. Armstrong, 35, was one of the most effective RP in MLB this year, with batters hitting .157 over 74 innings.

Armstrong, 35, was a key member of the Rangers’ bullpen throughout the 2025 season. He was a high-leverage option for the club, showcasing his versatility in a variety of roles. He was also a bullpen leader.
Rangers
The veteran reliever appeared in 71 games last year, posting a 2.31 ERA in 74.0 innings pitched. Armstrong joined the Rangers in 2024 as part of the club’s bullpen rebuild.
Armstrong is no stranger to Cleveland. The organization selected Armstrong in the 18th round of the 2011 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut with the club in 2015 and spent three seasons in Cleveland before he was traded to Seattle in 2017.
He appeared in 39 games in his past Cleveland stint, posting a 3.53 ERA in 43.1 innings pitched.
