The Cactus League has its own Hall of Fame, and Ichiro Suzuki headlines a stacked 2026 class.

The newest Cactus League Hall of Famers are Suzuki, former Arizona Diamondbacks manager Bob Brenly, longtime player and manager Dusty Baker, All-Star first baseman Paul Konerko and public policy advisor Geoffrey Gonsher.

The inductees will be honored in pregame ceremonies during spring training and featured in the Arizona Baseball Museum, set to open in February.

“The Cactus League Hall of Fame honors those who made outstanding contributions to spring training in Arizona. Some contributed on the field, others behind the scenes. All deserve to be recognized,” Bridget Binsbacher, Cactus League executive director, said in a Tuesday press release.

Suzuki entered the Baseball Hall of Fame last summer, and his introduction to MLB was back in 2001 at Mariners spring training in Peoria. League officials had to work to install overflow space to accommodate Japanese media.

As a seven-time All-Star in Japan and three-time Pacific League MVP, Suzuki signed with the Mariners as a 27-year-old set to make the then-rare jump from NPB to MLB that is becoming increasingly common.

Any and all concerns over his lack of power in a sport defined by it during the steroid era dissipated quickly. Suzuki won the American League Rookie of the Year and MVP in 2001, starting a career that resulted in 10 All-Star Games, 10 Gold Gloves, two batting titles and three Silver Sluggers in 19 MLB seasons.

He slapped the ball all over the field, was a menace base stealer and supplied one of the strongest outfield throwing arms in baseball history. From NPB to MLB, Suzuki played pro ball from 1992-2019.

He remains a staple of Mariners spring training, playing catch with star players and hitting in the batting cages.

Brenly played Cactus League baseball for the Giants throughout he 1980s before becoming a coach, broadcaster and the Diamondbacks’ skipper ahead of the 2001 season. Brenly was the second manager in Diamondbacks history, taking over for Buck Showalter in the fourth year of the club’s existence.

“We have a lot of guys in this room who have a burning desire to play in the World Series,” Brenly said before the season, and the D-backs proved him right with a thrilling seven-game World Series victory over the Yankees the following October.

Baker spent most of his playing days on the Braves and Dodgers, who trained in Florida at the time. As a manager, Baker led the Giants, Cubs and Reds to playoff appearances after their respective campaigns began in Arizona.

Baker won the 2002 NL pennant with the Giants before losing Game 7 of the Fall Classic to Anaheim. His Cubs made the NLCS the following season. He finally won the World Series as a manager in 2022 with the Astros, and overall, Baker is 22nd all-time in manager wins with a .540 win percentage.

Konerko, a Valley native who was drafted out of Chaparral High School, spent 16 seasons with the White Sox, whose spring training was in Tucson before they moved to Glendale.

The catcher-turned-first baseman hit 439 home runs during his career, making six All-Star teams and winning a World Series in 2005.

Gonsher is a former special assistant to governor Rose Mofford and is credited for establishing the Governor’s Special Task Force on Cactus League Baseball. He played a role in the passing of Prop. 302, which in November 2000 helped create a funding mechanism for spring training facilities and State Farm Stadium, among other sporting programs.
