Yandy Diaz

*This is a prediction*

The Tampa Bay Rays are coming off a season in which they failed to reach the playoffs as they finished with a 77-85 record. It is clear some roster revamping is going to be needed for this team to get back on track.

A way the Rays seemingly are going to be looking to do so is through trades, as they have recently been active in the trade market, sending Brandon Lowe to the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Shane Baz to the Baltimore Orioles.

There is another player the Rays could be looking to trade to get immense value back in return and that is Yandy Diaz, if that is the case, the Boston Red Sox make sense as the team to trade for him.

Tampa Bay Rays Trade Yandy Diaz to the Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox weren’t able to land Pete Alonso, making their need for a reliable first baseman that can also help in the lineup a need still as the MLB offseason progresses. Where the Red Sox can turn now to solve this is a trade with the Rays for Yandy Diaz.

Yandy Diaz plays with the power that the Red Sox need in their lineup, as over the last four seasons, Diaz has a .301/.379/.461 slash line with 70 home runs and 283 runs batted in. While his power isn’t otherworldly, he is able to hit doubles to set himself up in scoring position better frequently, which is something that would happen even more in a ballpark like Fenway that is great for doubles.

Between Yandy Diaz’s consistency he provides, along with a low strikeout rate, and ability to help the overall scoring from the offense on top of the defense he would bring at the first base spot all makes him the ideal trade candidate for the Red Sox.
