“Terry Seidler, the matriarch of the Seidler family, passed away on December 18 at the age of 92,” her family announced in a statement. “Terry’s father Walter and brother Peter led the O’Malley family stewardship of the Brooklyn / L.A. Dodgers from 1950-1998.  Terry became part owner of the San Diego Padres when her son Peter led the effort to purchase the Padres in 2012.  She became an avid Padres fan and attended games regularly at Petco Park, cheering on the Padres in her brown & gold.”

“Terry O’Malley Seidler, whose family was synonymous with the Dodgers for more than 50 years, has passed away,” the Dodgers said in a statement Friday. “We offer our deepest condolences to her brother Peter and family.”

Seidler and Peter O’Malley became Dodgers co-owners in 1979, succeeding their father Walter O’Malley. According to Walter O’Malley’s eponymous website, Terry Seidler began attending Dodger games at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn with her grandfathers: Edwin J. O’Malley, former New York City Commissioner of Public Markets, and Peter B. Hanson, a judge in Brooklyn Domestic Relations Court.

She recalled attending Game 4 of the 1941 World Series between the Dodgers and New York Yankees, when Mickey Owen famously dropped a third strike in the ninth inning, allowing the Yankees to come back to win the game — and the series.

After graduating college in 1954, Seidler made the move from New York to Los Angeles along with the rest of her family when the Dodgers relocated from Brooklyn. She worked as a personal secretary for her father during the Dodgers’ early years in Chavez Ravine.

Our hearts go out to the Seidler and O’Malley families on the passing of Terry Seidler. There are not words to accurately describe the kindness, inclusion and generosity of Terry. A true blessing to know Terry and her loving family. https://t.co/xomerVFVVg pic.twitter.com/lItxpwGN1d

Seidler met her future husband, Rollie Seidler, at a May 4, 1958 Dodgers-Phillies doubleheader at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

She and Peter O’Malley owned the Dodgers from 1979-98. Her son, Peter Seidler, purchased the San Diego Padres in 2012 along with Peter O’Malley and Ron Fowler. In 2020, MLB approved the transfer of the role of chairman from Fowler to Seidler, who purchased part of Fowler’s stake in the team to become the largest stakeholder.

John Seidler, Peter’s brother, became the Padres’ chairman after Peter Seidler died in November 2023. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Terry Seidler owned a small share of the Padres at the time of her death.
