Mike Campbell, a former pitcher for the Seattle Mariners among other Major League Baseball teams, has died at the age of 61.
The MLB team announced the news on Friday, writing: “We are saddened by the passing of Seattle native and former Mariners pitcher Mike Campbell. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones.”

According to the New York Post, Campbell died at his home in Kirkland, Washington. The outlet noted that the King County Medical Examiner’s records show that the cause of death is pending.
Campbell grew up in Seattle, attending high school in Bellevue, before heading to the University of Hawaii. He graduated from the Honolulu and then landed with the Seattle Mariners as the seventh overall pick in the 1985 draft.
The Seattle native made his pro debut in 1987. He went 1-4 as a starter while appearing in nine games. He posted 35 strikeouts and allowed 41 hits.
Campbell remained with the Mariners through 1989, but the team traded him and Mark Langston to the Expos in exchange for a package deal including Randy Johnson.
He ultimately spent 13 years playing in the majors and minors while suiting up for multiple teams. This includes the Rangers, Padres, and Cubs. Campbell posted a 12-19 record as a starter while striking out 135 batters. He posted a .357 average as a batter with 3 RBIs and 2 Runs.
Campbell is not the only former member of the Mariners to pass away this year. Back in October, former Yankees and Mariners catcher Jesus Montero died at the age of 35 after a motorcycle crash.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Mariner Jesús Montero,” the Mariners said on Oct. 19. “Our hearts go out to his family, friends and loved ones.”
Former Mariners pitcher Yoervis Medina also passed away in October after a car crash in Venezuela. Reports indicated that the 37-year-old suffered a heart attack while in the car, which led to a crash in Carabobo.
“We are saddened to hear of the passing of former Mariners pitcher Yoervis Medina,” the team posted in October. “We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.”
