MLB.com | Mark Feinsand: By now you’ve likely heard that NPB superstar Munetaka Murakami signed a two-year, $34 million deal with the White Sox yesterday. It was somewhat of a surprise both in terms of the deal size and the team, although no real rumors had swirled around Murakami in his entire posting process. I suppose there’s an argument to be made that there’s more upside in Murakami at $17 million than incumbent Yankee third baseman Ryan McMahon at $16 million (Murakami’s third base questions notwithstanding), but with how cold the Japanese slugger’s market was, we may be getting a preview of a player that can’t quite handle MLB.
New York Post | Mark Suleymanov: More than a few former Yankees have crossed over to Queens over the past couple seasons, with both Devin Williams and Luke Weaver inking deals with the Mets this winter alone. The Yankees got one back yesterday however, with the announcement that Zack Short has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Yankees. Short can play third, second, and well, short, alongside seeing time in the outfield over parts of five seasons in the majors. With Anthony Volpe expected to start the season on the IL, Short will help provide some depth options in what might be a messy start to 2026.

Sports Illustrated | Erin Shapland: While rumors continue to swirl that the Yankees would prefer to improve the club through trades rather than free agency, it appears that Jazz Chisholm Jr. will not be traded per Aaron Boone. The infielder, coming off a career season, was speculated about as a trade piece should the org be looking for a different source of value elsewhere on the diamond, but he’s probably most valuable to the Yankees as their second baseman rather than as trade capital.
