As usual, Christmas shopping snuck up on us. Maybe it’s because we were otherwise occupied trying to fill the copious wish list for those crazy baseball kids over in Arlington, who’ve been neither naughty nor particularly nice in 2025.
If the Rangers were to get what was really appropriate for their 81-81 season, it would probably be a level.
But, hey, there’s always next year. So, with eyes on the future, here’s a look at what the team up at The North Pole may be hustling to wrangle up for the Rangers to make it a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and a spring training to look forward to:
Ray Davis: Maybe just some gift cards. Do free agents accept those? Do they come in denominations of $5 million and up?
Rangers
Chris Young: We’re thinking of this Waterford water vessel. The guy apparently does a lot of entertaining. Because every time we ask, he says he could use another pitcher or two.

Skip Schumaker: A vintage, but operable sextant. Or a nice compass. Because things could get choppy and windy out there for the new skipper and a good navigational tool couldn’t hurt.
Corey Seager: The complete collection of Robert Downey Jr. films. Anything to make him more of an Iron Man. Is the suit — a real one — too expensive?

Jack Leiter: Whatever he got last year.
Kumar Rocker: Whatever Leiter gets.
Jake Burger and Josh Jung: These Danner Mountain 600 hiking boots, selected as the best in class by Men’s Health magazine. Because they both need to start walking more. And if they don’t, the boots may make the hike down to Round Rock a little less painful.
Evan Carter: He’d like some games, like 120 of them. But if you get only one, just don’t make it Operation. Or even mention it.
Jacob Latz: Easiest item to get. What do you get for the guy who wants desperately to join the Rangers rotation? A vintage Starter jacket. And listen, Santa, he’s been on the nice list this year. No need to get him another firetruck; he’s had enough time playing fireman.
Jacob deGrom: Didn’t really ask for anything. He’s making $37 million, so he’s set. Just has the very generous wish of peace on Earth and good health for all, especially himself.
Nathan Eovaldi: Challenge enthusiast loves puzzles. But before he is gifted another puzzle or escape room to solve, he sure could use the missing piece that kept last season from being a full-scale masterpiece. Maybe deGrom’s wish can extend to him, too.
Joc Pederson: A calendar, maybe with a cute cat motif or inspirational quotes. Just so long as it’s a calendar from 2024. Also, maybe a new glove. Not sure the Rangers can afford to have a full-time DH anymore. Maybe make it a first baseman’s mitt to give Jake Burger occasional off days.
Rowdy Tellez: A minor league contract with an invite to spring training. Because if Pederson struggles, Tellez might be the Rangers’ best option to backfill the spot.

Wyatt Langford and Brandon Nimmo: A cool science toy, like maybe, you know, a chemistry set. Because the Rangers were lacking in it. Nimmo is the new chemist in town; someday Langford’s gonna inherit it.
Cole Winn: A good, old Stretch Armstrong figurine. Because in the Rangers reconstituted bullpen, he’s likely to take on the role that an Armstrong of another name had last year. And hopefully his arm is as flexible as the rubbery doll.
Josh Smith: Maybe a subscription to an Energy-Bar-A-Month company. Maybe even a double order for the summer months. Gotta prevent that second-half fade.
Cody Freeman and Michael Helman: Another film wish, this one a sequel from 2017 — The Little Rascals Save The Day.
If Santa shows up with them all this week, well, next year Rangers fans might just end up with more than another lump of coal.
