Former Major League Baseball pitcher Mike Campbell, who was drafted by the Seattle Mariners with the No. 7 overall pick in the 1985 MLB Draft, has died. He was 61 years old.
The Mariners announced Campbell’s death on X this past Friday.
“We are saddened by the passing of Seattle native and former Mariners pitcher Mike Campbell,” the post said. “Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones.”
In addition to the Seattle Mariners, Campbell also played for the Texas Ranges, San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs during his six-year Major League Baseball career.
He went 12-19 with a 5.86 ERA, striking out 135 batters in 233 1/3 innings pitched. Campbell appeared in 51 games, making 41 starts.
He was slowed by injuries late in his career, which cut his time playing professional baseball short.
According to Westside Seattle, Mike Campbell died after suffering a heart attack in his sleep.
“Sad news. Thoughts are with Mike Campbell’s family, friends, and everyone connected to the Mariners organization,” a fan posted on X.
Another added: “R.I.P. Mike Campbell!!! My prayers go out to you, as I pray you are received in Heaven and my condolences and prayers go out to your family. God Bless you all!!!”
