Good morning! The Red Sox have a new first baseman after completing a trade that sent Hunter Dobbins and minor leaguers to the Cardinals for Willson Contreras. What does this mean for their other pursuits? According to one insider, it means they are done talking with the Diamondbacks about a trade for Ketel Marte:

Of course the Red Sox infield (non-first base edition) currently consists of just Trevor Story, Marcelo Mayer, Romy Gonzalez, and David Hamilton. That’s not an acceptable group to the start the season with and Marte would still be a big help. So why would they be giving up on him? My bet is that they are wary of emptying out the farm/pitching depth any further, which would leave either free agency or a trade from the non-pitching half of the MLB team as the only viable routes to improve the infield.

Talk about what you want and be good to one another.
