Kingston native Zack Short has signed a minor league deal with the New York Yankees.

Short, a 30-year-old utility infielder, most recently played in the majors with the Houston Astros this season, hitting .220 in 22 games, including a walk-off base hit in the 11th inning to beat the Texas Rangers in mid-July.

After a Kingston High School baseball career that included all-state honors, and a college career at Sacred Heart that earned him all-conference honors, Short was drafted in the 17th round of the MLB entry draft by the Chicago Cubs in 2016. He has played in the majors for the Astros, Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Detroit Tigers.
