After missing the postseason again in 2025, the San Francisco Giants’ front office is looking to make sure that it doesn’t happen again in 2026. This team hasn’t been overly competitive over the last few years, and it has been a frustrating time in San Francisco.
New president of baseball operations, Buster Posey, understands what it takes to win, and he seems determined to get this team back on top. Posey won a few World Series titles with the Giants during his playing days, and now he is in charge of helping turn this franchise around.
Posey has already said that the team will be going after pitching help this offseason, given that he understands how crucial having good arms is to winning. This team already has ace Logan Webb in the rotation, but after him, there is much to be desired within the staff.
As the Giants move forward with the offseason, addressing the starting pitching has to be the priority, and it seems that the team is targeting certain guys. San Francisco could look to go down the free agent route, or they could pivot and make a trade for a starter.
Either way, the Giants have to do something to get this team back to being competitive for the playoffs in 2026. But how the Giants’ brass approaches this remains a mystery, and has many around baseball watching them closely.

San Francisco Giants Will Trade For Mitch Keller
One name that San Francisco could look to target in a potential trade is right-hander Mitch Keller of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Keller has been placed on the trade block for a few years, and he seems to be the most likely pitcher from the Pirates to be moved.
Keller still has three more years of club control on the books, and he is scheduled to make around $18.5 million in each season. The veteran arm could be the perfect complementary piece to Webb, giving the Giants a legitimate one-two punch in the rotation.
The right-hander has been very durable throughout his MLB career, having made at least 29 starts for four straight seasons, averaging around 183 innings of work. If he were moved to the Giants, his numbers may even improve due to San Francisco having a better defense than the Pirates.
Overall, his 2025 season was decent enough, as he posted an ERA of 4.19 over 32 starts for Pittsburgh. Keller could work on his strikeout rate, going back up, but otherwise, he could be a strong addition for the Giants to make.
San Francisco has to make some type of move for the starting rotation, and adding Keller could really help this team get over the hump moving forward. Keller has electric stuff on the mound, and working with the Giants’ pitching staff could help him unlock even more as his career moves on.
