Any San Francisco Giants fan that has sat out in the Oracle Park stands and watched their team take the field over the past couple of seasons has left them frustrated.
Let’s say an outsider to Major League Baseball looked at the iconic history of the Giants’ franchise, going all the way back to Bobby Thomson’s home run to the Bruce Bochy-led World Series titles.

Then, the same people looked at the Giants’ record over the past three seasons. They might ask if something is wrong. San Francisco has finished around .500 in these seasons. Even with making some additions to the lineup, like Rafael Devers last season, things have not gotten better.
Well, ESPN decided to look at some of the most aggrieved MLB fan bases out there. They have put together what they’re calling the “MLB aggrieved fan index.” And, well, Giants fans, the team by the bay is right in the middle of it all.
ESPN MLB writer David Schoenfield diligently put together a top 10 list of the fan bases that simply have had to deal with mediocrity for a period of time.
Sorry, Giants fans, you all fall into that category. This list reflects upset fan bases from the 2025 season.

“One thing about the Giants: They’re consistent,” Schoenfield wrote. “The past four seasons they’ve gone 81-81, 79-83, 80-82 and 81-81, respectively. Being stuck in neutral creates its own kind of fan frustration.
“They’ve made the playoffs once in the past nine seasons, the miracle season of 2021 that now stands out as maybe one of the biggest flukes in MLB history,” Schoenfield continued.
“This past season was also kind of strange,” Schoenfield wrote. “In his first season as president of baseball operations, Buster Posey made the big Devers trade in June, but then dealt Tyler Rogers, Camilo Doval, and Mike Yastrzemski at the trade deadline. The Giants ended up missing the playoffs by two games. Do they make it if they keep those guys?
“This offseason raises the same concerns the Giants always seem to face: Even with the addition of Devers, they need another middle-of-the-order hitter; the rotation always feels one good starter short; the outfield always needs one more productive hitter; and now the bullpen needs a makeover with Rogers and Doval gone and Randy Rodriguez out after Tommy John surgery.

“Kyle Tucker or Cody Bellinger fit the Giants’ needs, but their fans have heard this story before, as the team always seems unable to reel in one of the top free agents,” Schoenfield concluded.
Other fan bases represented in this ESPN list include the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals and, at No. 1, the Minnesota Twins.
At this point, any good news that Giants fans hear about their ballclub might make them blink twice. They want to see results this season. Maybe with Bochy and Dusty Baker on board to help out Giants manager Tony Vitello in his first season in the dugout will help.
But will Giants fans stay ticked if the team underperforms and doesn’t even get a whiff of postseason play? That’s the question.
