A Lowndes Academy multi-sport standout celebrated his college commitment recently. During a ceremony in the school’s auditorium, friends, family and supporters looked on while Grant Casey signed on to play baseball at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (LBW) on Dec. 10.
Grant has played football and baseball for the Rebels. But baseball is his true passion and playing at the community-college level represents the fulfillment of a longtime dream.
“Playing baseball in college has been my dream and goal for a long time,” Grant said, thanking God and coaches, teachers and private instructors who helped him on the journey to post-high-school baseball. “It means so much to me.”
His parent, Warren and Cara Casey, looked on as their son signed on the dotted line to follow his passion for baseball with the Saints. Warren expressed pride in Grant, who put in the work needed to earn the opportunity and a scholarship at LBW.
“I am super proud of Grant\,” Warren said. “His hard work and dedication to the sport of baseball has been second to none. I’m thankful to all the coaches he’s had that have got him to this point, believed in him and gave him an opportunity to play over the years.
“I’m thankful for LBW for believing in him and giving him an opportunity to showcase his skill and to start his education with them. I hope that he’s able to work hard there and move on to a four-year college and continue to play baseball and get his education. We owe a big thanks to Coach Colton [Mathis] and Coach R. L. Langston for helping Grant get in front of the right college coaches and to get an opportunity like this.”
