Royals congratulate Chiefs on move to Kansas

  • December 23, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The long-time neighbors at the Truman Sports Complex are officially headed their separate ways.

On Monday, the Kansas City Chiefs announced plans to build a state-of-the-art domed stadium in Kansas City, Kansas, and a new practice facility, headquarters and mixed-use development in Olathe, Kansas.

The planned move for the Chiefs will come at the end of the 2030 NFL season, when the organization’s lease expires at the Truman Sports Complex.

With that move official, the Chiefs’ Truman Sports Complex neighbor, the Kansas City Royals, wished them well and celebrated their next step.

“Proud to be your next-door neighbor for 52 years,” the Royals posted in a statement on social media. “Proud to be part of the Kingdom into the future.”

Royals owner John Sherman also issued a statement, congratulating Chiefs owner Clark Hunt on the move. The congratulations from Sherman came nearly 20 months after the two teams failed to pass a vote to extend a 3/8-cent sales tax that would’ve built a new Royals stadium in the Crossroads and renovated Arrowhead Stadium.

“On behalf of the Kansas City Royals, I want to wish the Hunt family and the entire Chiefs organization all the best on this important day,” Sherman said. “Though a few more miles may separate us in the future, let’s continue our work as we build a world-class championship sports legacy for the Kansas City region.”
