The evolution of Rob Refsnyder

Rob Refsnyder had a pretty good run with the Red Sox. Now it’s come to an end.

The 34-year-old, who signed with the Red Sox before the 2022 season, has agreed to a one-year, $6.25 million deal with the Mariners.

Refsnyder is coming off back-to-back years of .830 and .838 OPS, respectively. Against lefty pitching last season, the outfielder totaled a .959 OPS.

In his four seasons with the Red Sox, Refnsyder a combined .804 OPS, having started 192 games. With the emergence of Nate Eaton, and the likely willingness to play Wilyer Abreu more against left-handed pitching, Refsnyder’s return was always somewhat in doubt.

Rob Refsnyder posted an .838 OPS in 209 plate appearances with the Boston Red Sox last season.

Since 2022, Refsnyder’s .407 on-base percentage against left-handed pitching ranks 3rd in @MLB behind only Aaron Judge and Paul Goldschmidt (min. 400 PA). https://t.co/HQiwcPjIpZ
