I promise, this is the last time (maybe) we address the potential that the Texas Rangers trade their All-Star shortstop Corey Seager but for a moment let’s dive into a possible trade destination if he ever was going to be on the trade block.
Early in the offseason it was known the Rangers would dump payroll and once Marcus Semien was traded to New York in November, the flood of rumors came in that Seager would be the next to go. It never went any further than baseless rumors and when the rumors came around again in December, Chris Young was quick to set the record straight.
“We are not shopping Corey Seager, I want to make that very clear,” Young said. “Maybe they thought by trading Marcus [Semien], we’d be open on Corey….We call and check in on great players with other teams as well. So teams are doing their job, I get it,”
Which teams would have the best cases to trade for Corey Seager?
Once the first set of rumors starting swirling in late November, it was the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers’ fanbases were speaking the loudest. A few weeks after tgat first wave, it was reignited by reports that the Boston Red Sox had conversations with Texas about Seager.
That prompted FanSided’s Christopher Kline to examine these eight teams would be interested in the 30-year-old shortstop.
Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels.
This would be the Rangers best Seager trade package
Kline believes the Red Sox would have the best package to offer Chris Young and the Rangers. It helps that Boston is desperately looking for a replacement for Alex Bregman, who is likely leaving in free agency this winter.
Boston will likely try to go after Ketel Marte due to his more favorable contract but Boston also has a surplus of players and prospects that would net a package for Seager as well.
The package would include the Rangers trading Seager for 1B Triston Casas, SS Franklin Arias, LHP Payton Tolle and RHP Yordanny Monegro. Arias, Tolle and Monegro are all top 30 prospects for Boston, including Arias and Tolle being the organization’s two best prospects.
Tolle, the TCU alum, made his big league debut in 2025 and while he struggled in his 16.1 innings of work, he still holds a 3.92 ERA and 465 strikeouts in his first full professional season.
For Arias, the 20-year-old shortstop is the 24th best prospect in baseball and will enter his fourth professional season in 2026. In the first three years, he is slashing .299/.377/.431 with 18 home runs, 135 RBIs, 61 doubles, .808 OPS and nearly just as many walks (107) as strikeouts (127) in 240 career games.
