Both the New York Mets and New York Yankees have been linked to a trade this offseason for talented Cincinnati Reds pitcher Hunter Greene. However, the one-time All-Star made it clear on Tuesday that he has no interest in going to NYC, or any other city for that matter.

Both the Mets and Yankees have been linked to various trades and free agent signings this offseason. It is no surprise after both fell well below expectations this past season. After being one of the top four teams in MLB at the end of the 2024 season, the Mets didn’t even make the playoffs last year, while the Yankees were bounced in the divisional round of the postseason.

Interestingly, the pair of New York clubs is in the market for starting pitching this winter. Be it on the trade block or in free agency, both feel they need to improve their starting rotations if they truly want to compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays in 2026.

One intriguing player that has been linked to the Mets and Yankees is Hunter Greene. The 26-year-old is one of the Reds’ best young talents. However, after injury woes last season and the emergence of other players, there were rumblings this offseason that they might be open to moving him to address other needs on the roster.

That chatter has quieted down in recent weeks. However, if Cincy revisited the idea, Greene made it quite clear this week in an interview with USA Today that he does not want to play anywhere but in Cincinnati.

“My thing is that I’m a Cincinnati Red. I love the city. I love the team, I love the potential,” Greene said. “I’ve bought a home there. I’ve done so much philanthropy and community service in Cincinnati. I’m deeply embedded in that city.”

It is understandable why the NY Mets, NY Yankees, and any team would be interested in Greene. Although he dealt with injuries last season, he has huge potential and can grow into an ace pitcher on any club. He was an All-Star in 2024 and was getting early Cy Young buzz before suffering a groin injury earlier this year.

Furthermore, he is signed through 2029 at a very reasonable price considering his talent-level and performance potential in the years ahead.
