The Boston Red Sox have not made a major signing this offseason, but chief baseball officer Craig Breslow made a few trades that could prove to be very impactful.

The Red Sox have added Sonny Gray, Johan Oviedo and Willson Contreras this offseason, but they still have some work to do and some valuable trade chips. They have a surplus in the outfield and could get a solid return from one of their young outfielders. Of their four outfielders, two stand out as trade chips.

Roman Anthony and Ceddanne Rafaela have signed extensions and are unlikely to be dealt, leaving Wilyer Abreu and Jarren Duran. Duran is older than Abreu and saw some decline last season. He was an All-Star in 2024 and was a hot name at the trade deadline last year. FanSided’s Christopher Kline urged the Red Sox to trade him to the Royals.

Duran saw his numbers decline, but he was still a very productive player. He had a .774 OPS, led the American League in triples, hit 16 home runs and collected 84 RBIs. However, in the second half of the season, he was closer to the version of himself that made the All-Star Game a year earlier. He had an .818 OPS in the second half of the season.

Duran is under club control through 2028 and could be a great addition to the Royals. However, the Red Sox are reportedly valuing him highly in trade talks, so the Royals will need to put together an enticing package.
