Many SF Giants fans are frustrated. The team has had four straight middling seasons and while they have shaken up the coaching staff, they have not made any major additions to the roster this offseason.

ESPN recently made a list of the 10 most aggrieved MLB fanbases and the Giants rank sixth. The teams ahead of them are the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Angels, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Mets, and Minnesota Twins.

ESPN does not understand true frustration of SF Giants fans

The article makes note of the team’s mediocrity since the miracle 107-win season in 2021, but they fail to mention the fact that the Los Angeles Dodgers just won their second straight World Series title. No other team on the list has been the victim of their arch nemesis winning two straight titles which just adds insult to injury.

Not only that, but the Dodgers have won by spending money like there is no tomorrow while it seems like the Giants are scared to spend anything in free agency. Their most substantial addition has been a two-year, $22 million deal with Adrian Houser which certainly did not get fans thinking the team was now on par with the Dodgers from a talent perspective.

Money does not guarantee championships, but teams have to be aggressive and willing to spend. We know free agent pursuits have burned the Giants in the past, but if they are going to have any chance at taking down the Dodgers they have to do more.

They do not necessarily have to land Tatsuya Imai and Kyle Tucker for this offseason to be considered a success, although some fans may disagree. But making a meaningful addition in the outfield and adding another solid arm to the rotation is necessary for fans to have some hope going into 2026.

Signing starting pitcher Chris Bassitt and outfielder Harrison Bader, a player they have been linked to, would not lead to a huge spike in season ticket deals, but it would at least show that the Giants are trying. One could at least understand the vision as the team is looking to improve the pitching staff as well as the outfield’s defense.

There is still time left in the offseason and there are lots of free agents still on the board and potential trades to be made so we cannot judge Buster Posey and the front office too quickly.

But even though Giants fans were spoiled with three championships last decade, frustrations are running high with what the Dodgers are doing. The Giants need to start acting otherwise those frustrations may boil over with another season of mediocrity.
