Over the course of the MLB offseason so far, there have been two top players on the Boston Red Sox that have been discussed in trade rumors, and they have been Wilyer Abreu, and Jarren Duran. While they have been the main ones, a recent report from Ken Rosenthal has brought to light that Brayan Bello is also a trade candidate.

If the Boston Red Sox truly do go forward with trading Brayan Bello, then it is the Detroit Tigers that make the most sense to trade for him.

The Detroit Tigers currently find themselves in a standstill with Tarik Skubal when it comes to negotiating his cotract extension. The Tigers still have Skubal set for this season, but if they can’t re-sign him, he will hit free agency at the end of the 2026 season.
In the event that this does happen, the Tigers need to start building out their pitching staff for the future, while also staying competitive this season to go all-in and win a World Series with Skubal still on the roster.
With the recent news that Brayan Bello could be available for a trade, he becomes the ideal solution for the Tigers.
With Brayan Bello, he is coming off his best season in MLB yet, as he posted a 3.35 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 2.4 WAR, while also adding on 124 strikeouts. Over his entire four seasons in MLB so far, Bello has a 4.09 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 7.4 WAR, and 464 strikeouts.
Brayan Bello is just 26 years old, and offers plenty of upside. Pairing him up to learn from Skubal for at least a season would be extremely beneficial for the Tigers. If they end up retaining Skubal as well, this move further helps solidify the top end of their lineup.
