The New York Yankees need to get aggressive in free agency and on the trade block in the coming weeks. The rest of the American League East has been aggressive at adding to their respective rosters, but the Yankees haven’t.
New York could use upgrades around its roster. It needs to add to the bullpen and the outfielder first and foremost, but the starting rotation could use some additional talent, too.
Alexander Wilson of Empire Sports Media predicted the Yankees would land a trade for Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta in the coming weeks.

“Once the lineup is secured, I expect Cashman to aggressively pivot to the rotation by targeting Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta,” Wilson wrote. “The Yankees and Brewers already have a well-oiled trade pipeline, established last winter when New York sent Nestor Cortes and Caleb Durbin to Milwaukee for Devin Williams.
“While the recent move where the Yankees re-sign Paul Blackburn to a one-year, $2 million contract provides depth, it does not move the needle for a team trying to win a World Series. Peralta is the legitimate frontline hammer that helps protect a unit already dealing with major injury questions.”
There are major question marks surrounding the Yankees’ pitching staff right now, so adding a star like Peralta would fit perfectly.
The Yankees also have the money to re-sign him to a new deal when his contract expires at the end of next season. Adding Peralta to the Yankees roster would be one of the best moves they could make.
