The Red Sox have been busy on the trade market this offseason, and might still have more moves to make.

Boston has “quietly shopped” right-hander Brayan Bello, The Athletic reported on Monday, adding Bello’s name “often surfaces when teams ask about the Red Sox’s young pitching.”

Bello, who signed a six-year extension with the Red Sox in March, is owed $50 million over the next four seasons. He also has a a $1 million buyout on a $21 million club option for 2030.

The 26-year-old finished the 2025 season with a career-best 3.35 ERA and 124 strikeouts in 166⅔ innings pitched. He hasn’t quite hit his ceiling, but his contract might be appealing to teams.

If the Red Sox were to trade Bello, Garrett Crochet, Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo would likely be locks for three of the five rotation spots. Patrick Sandoval and Kutter Crawford are options for the other two, but they are both coming off injuries and neither pitched last season.

Boston also has Payton Tolle and Connelly Early in its arsenal.

The Red Sox could certainly benefit from adding a solidified No. 2 to their rotation, but moving Bello has the risk of weakening the rotation in 2026. They added Gray and Johan Oviedo via trades, but still are missing someone behind Garrett Crochet.
