John Martin and his brother, Allen, have been the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels managing partners since 2021, but now, they’re taking their involvement in the Twins organization to a whole new level.On Dec. 17, the Martins were announced as limited partners of the Minnesota Twins’ ownership group.Mighty Mussels managing partner John Martin said, “To say that we’re excited would literally be the understatement of the year. This is a lifelong pursuit; this is something that has been a dream of myself and my brother for 20-plus years since we were no longer chasing the dream of playing baseball on the field ourselves.”This is quite an accomplishment for a couple of farm kids from Illinois, but how did this all come to be?John Martin said, “With the access that we have to spring training and the Class A team, we built some really cool relationships with the Minnesota Twins, with their front office, with the Pohlad family, and we were able to utilize those and become a partner with the Pohlads as a limited partner for the Minnesota Twins.”A new level of power and responsibility, but day-to-day operations for the Martins won’t look much different than before.John Martin said, “I might get a few cool emails that give me a little more detail than I used to get on all things that are happening with the Twins, but from a day-to-day standpoint, what we’ve been doing with the Mighty Mussels and with spring training is not going to change.”And just like that, the Minnesota Twins have become even more relevant here in Fort Myers.John Martin said, “We’re going to learn a whole lot about professional sports ownership, and we can’t wait to get a front row seat.”DOWNLOAD the free Gulf Coast News app for your latest news and alerts on breaking news, weather, sports, entertainment, and more on your phone or tablet. On Dec. 17, the Martins were announced as limited partners of the Minnesota Twins’ ownership group.
