It has reached the part of the MLB offseason where Luis Robert Jr.’s name has started to pop up frequently in trade rumors. As the Chicago White Sox make improvements as a team to accelerate through their rebuild, trading Robert Jr. remains the quickest way they can accomplish this.
There have been many teams linked to Luis Robert Jr. in potential trades over the last few offseason, as well as trade deadline periods, but the team that makes the most sense to trade for him now is the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Chicago White Sox Trade Luis Robert Jr to the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates have found themselves in a spot where they have been aggressive with attacking this MLB offseason to improve the team. They went out and added players like Gregory Soto, Jhostynxon Garcia, Brandon Lowe, Jake Mangum, Mason Montgomery, and Ryan O’Hearn. Their roster is almost set, outside of their third base spot.
With how the Pirates have been aggressive this offseason with making trades, their plan to fix the third base spot in a trade makes sense, and the ideal player they can look to trade for to accomplish this is Luis Robert Jr.
The Pirates might be able to trade for Luis Robert Jr. at a bit of a discounted price as he finished the 2025 season with a .223/.297/.364 slash line, 14 home runs, and 53 runs batted in. Despite the dip in offensive production, Robert Jr. has remained a force on the defensive side of things, which provides some encouragement when trading for him.
A team like Pittsburgh can take the gamble on Luis Robert Jr. in hopes that he gets back on track offensively, as he has shown he can be a force there with his career slash line of .259/.313/.455, 102 home runs, and 298 runs batted in.
With Luis Robert Jr., he is still just 28 years old, and has the ability to turn things around and even further build on his strengths as well. Adding Robert Jr.’s typical batting ability to a lineup with Bryan Reynolds and Oneil Cruz would end up paying off immensely for Pittsburgh, and in the process, they would get their answer at third base to solidify the team.
