Topps has scored a hit with collectors from its 2025 Topps Chrome Update Series Alter Egos inserts, a short-printed concept that re-imagines 10 players under a superhero identity.

Featuring original art by Michael Blaskewicz and a vibrant Refractor shine, collectors have given the new set plenty of praise since its release on December 10. Add in Blaskewicz’s philanthropic mission, and the rare concept flies into an even higher tier.

The card backs tease Blaskewicz’s Altered Egos website, which explains its philanthropic mission as such:

Altered Egos is an artist-led initiative with a philanthropic mission. We use the power of art to celebrate real heroes—those who give back, uplift, and create change in their communities. We collaborate with charitable organizations and community leaders to design and donate curated artwork for fundraising, awareness, and inspiration. From the ballfield to the block, we honor those making a difference—because true heroes don’t wear capes, they rise up for others. Through our creative initiatives, we champion empowerment through storytelling that matters.

Collectors who pull one of the Alter Egos inserts might feel like they’ve accomplished a type of heroic feat.

The cards are very tough pulls at 1:4,074 hobby packs, which equates to once every 203.7 boxes (or about 1:17 cases). The 1/1 Superfractors are have hobby pack odds of 1:389,424. Some early sales of Alter Egos inserts on secondary marketplaces have reached four figures.

Blaskewicz’s art truly gives new meaning to several players’ nicknames, and collectors get a nice mix with six active stars and four Hall of Famers. Continue scrolling to see a full gallery of the set.

#1 Rickey Henderson, Oakland Athletics

Nicknamed the “Man of Steal” as Major League Baseball’s greatest base runner, Henderson strikes a pose on his card that is reminiscent of Superman — the “Man of Steel.”

#2 Frank Thomas, Chicago White Sox

Thomas put a lot of power into his swing throughout his career, earning the nickname “Big Hurt” for his game-changing power. With bulging muscles and a fearsome grimace, Thomas looks even more powerful as his alter ego.

#3 Ozzie Smith, St. Louis Cardinals

Smith became known as “The Wizard” because he could make plays that seemingly no other shortstop would even try. His on-field backflips also made him a fan-favorite, and Blaskewicz drew on both of those elements for this card to create a flipping wizard in arguably the most unique card in the set.

#4 Cal Ripken Jr., Baltimore Orioles

Rounding out the Hall of Famers is the “The Iron Man” himself, Cal Ripken Jr. Shown with an iron body and a human head, Ripken’s card evokes memories of the night he played his 2,131st straight game in 1995 and was celebrated by fans for 22 minutes in the middle of the game.

#5 Jasson Dominguez, New York Yankees

With extraordinary power, Dominguez earned the nickname “The Martian” because his offensive future seemed out of this world. Dominguez sports the traditional look of a Martian on his card as he is beamed into a stadium from the sky.

#6 Aaron Judge, New York Yankees

With a last name like Judge and enough power to get the fans out of their seats for a standing ovation, “All Rise” simply made sense as a moniker. Wielding a giant gavel, Judge’s alter ego looks ready to make powerful decisions — just as the real Judge does when his bat connects with a baseball.

#7 Pete Alonso, New York Mets

Alonso is big and powerful, which earned him the nickname “Polar Bear.” The man stands in the shadow of his alter ego — a ferociously giant polar bear you should not mess with.

#8 Francisco Lindor, New York Mets

Lindor has always appreciated that he can play baseball for a living, and his charming — and seemingly omnipresent — joy has earned the nickname “Mr. Smile.” Teaming up with Mr. Met, Lindor’s alter ego looks ready to make the world a better place.

#9 Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers

Known as “Shotime,” it makes sense that Ohtani’s alter ego can be in two places at once — just like Ohtani can do on the field. His magician alter ego can conjure up a warrior, leaving him prepared for any situation and befuddling his opponents.

#10 Ronald Acuña Jr., Atlanta Braves

Known as “La Bestia” — or “The Beast” in English — Acuña seems like two different players on the field. Home run hitters are not supposed to steal 70 bases in a season, and speedy base runners are not supposed to hit 40 home runs in a season. Yet, Acuña has combined power and speed to become one of the most dynamic players in the game, and his alter ego combines man and beast to create a similarly dynamic character.
