Jose Berrios

*Prediction*

With the pitching rotation depth that the Toronto Blue Jays now have after they signed Dylan Cease to the rotation that features Cody Ponce, Trey Yesavage, Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, and Jose Berrios, with depth as well with Eric Lauer, Yariel Rodriguez, Bowden Francis, and Ricky Tiedemann.

To make room for some of their younger players and prospects to get time in the rotation, the Blue Jays could look to trade a back-end starter like Jose Berrios, and get assets in return to further build the team out for the future after reaching the World Series in 2025.

If the Blue Jays trade Jose Berrios, a team that makes sense to have interest in trading for him is the Atlanta Braves.

Toronto Blue Jays Trade Jose Berrios to the Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves know they need to modify their roster after a 2025 season in which they finished with a 76-86 record. They have gone out and signed players like Mike Yastrzemski and Robert Suarez, while also re-signing Ha-Seong Kim, but they need to look to add more quality pitching, especially towards the top of the rotation, if they are going to be successful in 2026.

The 2025 season saw the Braves have every single pitcher from the Opening Day rotation land on the injured list at one point during the season, this created major inconsistency from their rotation, something they need to avoid. The depth is also important, as they have three pitchers locked in with Chris Sale, Spencer Strider, and Hurston Waldrep, but after them, the talent takes a bit of a dip.

For the Braves to not only just get better pitching talent, but also reliable talent, they can look to trade for Jose Berrios. Since 2018, Berrios leads all pitchers in starts with 234, and in innings pitched with 1367 1/3. Over the last eight seasons of Berrios’ 10-year career, he has had a 3.94 ERA, 1.213 WHIP, and 1,293 strikeouts.

Jose Berrios is a bit on the older side with being 31, but he still produced at an efficient level last season with a 4.17 ERA, 1.301 WHIP, and 138 strikeouts. For Atlanta, they don’t need Berrios to be their ace, they just need him to provide a stable presence behind Strider and Sale, which is exactly what he can do, making him the ideal trade candidate for them.
