The New York Mets desperately need to add an ace to their pitching staff this offseason.
The pitching staff is what held the Mets back last season, so the front office is going to need to prioritize upgrading this unit in a big way.
ClutchPoints’ Garrett Kerman put together a huge trade package that would send Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal to the Mets in exchange for Mark Vientos, Brandon Sproat, Ronny Mauricio, and Jonathan Santucci.

“This is a compromise that meets a variety of requirements for the Tigers and, at the same time, releases salary and prospect resources for the Mets without giving up its most coveted prospects Nolan McLean, Carson Benge, and Jett Williams,” Kerman wrote this week. “Besides, two potential positional players and two young pitchers who might turn out to be the future of the Tigers’ staff will be added to Detroit’s side.”
Skubal would be the ultimate addition for the Mets. To make matters even better for New York, the front office would have the money to sign him to a $300 million or $400 million contract extension to avoid losing him in free agency.
The return in this trade package might be enough to land him, too. The Tigers would be getting multiple potential stars, including a very good pitching prospect in Sproat.
A Skubal trade is unlikely for the time being, but if the Tigers look to trade him, the Mets are seemingly the best landing spot.
