CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The Cincinnati Reds have their ace back to start a weekend series against the first-place Chicago Cubs, and they have a new player on the roster, too.
The Reds have activated Hunter Greene (right groin strain) from the 15-day injured list. The right-hander will start Friday night at Great American Ball Park.
The team has also signed infielder/outfielder Garrett Hampson to a one-year Major League contract and transferred right-handed pitcher Carson Spiers to the 60-day IL, while outfielder Rece Hinds was optioned to AAA-Louisville.
Hampson was released three days ago by the Arizona Diamondbacks and in parts of eight Major League seasons has slashed .239/.302/.358 in 648 games. He’s played every position except catcher.
