First off, Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season to you and yours. Ten years ago, Santa delivered Daniel Murphy on Christmas Eve to Washington Nationals fans. Those were the good times.

If this was three years ago, you would have been thrilled if the Nationals acquired Matt Mervis as the №88 prospect on Baseball Prospestus. The Potomac, Maryland kid was this year’s Christmas Eve gift as a minor league signing.

In addition to Mervis, the Nats officially signed free agent Foster Griffin this week. And this offseason has brought two top prospects Harry Ford and Luis Perales via trades. Of course none of this feels like enough. Most of the action has been in coaching, front office, and player development acquisitions.

At least you didn’t get coal in your stocking. Things could always be worse as they say. Someone said that at least the Nats are winning off the field. Let’s be real, that doesn’t do it for most people. The Marlins, yes the Marlins, signed the closer, Pete Fairbanks, who many coveted here. Same with Ryan O’Hearn as a potential first baseman as he went to the Pirates.

Where is that big signing for the Washington Nationals? That is above our pay grade. Even Ryan Zimmerman spoke up to what most Nats fans have been clamoring for, and that’s a veteran team leader who will be around for more than a year. These young players in that clubhouse need a voice of leadership from a player who won’t be gone on July 31.

Yes, there is still over 45 days remaining in this offseason. At this point, should Zimmerman come out of retirement like Philip Rivers to save the team? 🙄

If you want some encouraging news, this team should be better in 2026. Should. Not a guarantee. The 66 wins in 2025 was an embarrassment. Again, there is time to see the full vision from Paul Toboni, Ani Kilambi, and the Lerner ownership group.

Baseball America has the Nats as one of the winners in top prospect acquisitions this offseason.

See, there are some positives. And we can hold onto hope for a brighter future!
