We still have almost two months until pitchers and catchers report in mid-February, and plenty more signings and trades are still coming around the league. On the other hand, just about every notable free agent reliever is now accounted for with Tuesday’s signing of RHP Pete Fairbanks by the Miami Marlins.
There are still plenty of good starters from Framber Valdez and Ranger Suarez to Japanese free agent Tatsuya Imai available, and of course our old friend Justin Verlander, among others, is looking for a deal. Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Bo Bichette, and Cody Bellinger, among other notable position players, are still yet to sign. From an AL Central perspective though, there probably aren’t many more big signings to come. Trades are more likely at this point, but either way the AL Central may be roughly set for 2026.
The White Sox have made enough moves to be interesting, though unlikely a real threat. The Twins seem to be completely in limbo, but they do have several good prospects close to the major leagues. But right now it probably comes down to the Tigers and Guardians, with the Royals perhaps nipping at their heels.
Maybe someone will surprise us with a major signing or trade. Maybe it will even be the Tigers, but right now, how do you feel about the Tigers chances of winning the division in 2026? Which AL Central team has improved the most so far this offseason?
