The Baltimore Orioles have a long and storied history as a part of Major League Baseball. But recently, the team hasn’t been atop the AL in some time.

That’s looking to change in 2026, as Mike Elias and company have finally begun seriously investing in the team. Christmas has come early for Orioles fans, with plenty of great additions so far this winter.

But, when it comes to making moves on Christmas Day, the Orioles have yet to make any such transactions, according to Baseball Reference. But on Christmas Eve, Baltimore has been involved in a few moves in their franchise history.

Orioles’ history of Christmas Day, Eve roster moves

Most recently, the Orioles signed Cesar Cabral in 2014 as a free agent. He made two appearances for the Orioles in 2015, posting a 0.00 ERA across one inning pitched.

While Cabral wasn’t the most impactful signing, he was the most recent Christmas roster move from the Orioles. The next most recent Christmas Eve roster move came all of the way back in 1997, when the Orioles signed P.J. Forbes.

Forbes, a versatile infielder who could play almost anywhere, made a brief Major League stint with the Orioles in 1998, where he appeared in nine games, recording a -.01 bWAR, a .100 batting average, and a .200 OPS.

With very little to show for the Orioles Christmas Eve roster moves, and none occurring on Christmas Day in their long franchise history, Elias has a chance to etch himself in Orioles history with one roster move.

Any signing, trade, or even release of a player could make some Orioles history on Christmas Day. While their success with Christmas-related roster moves hasn’t been great, the Orioles could change that in a big way with one of the top starting pitchers this winter.

Tatsuya Imai, Ranger Suarez, or Framber Valdez could be incredible Christmas gifts to the Orioles fan base, and it’s not a far-fetched move to occur on Christmas Day.
