The Seattle Mariners swung a pair of trades to add Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suárez from the Arizona Diamondbacks at the trade deadline. They re-signed Josh Naylor to a new deal early in the offseason, but Suárez remains in free agency, as of Wednesday.

The Mariners could look to re-sign Suárez, but there’s a chance he bolts for a new team this winter.

SportsGrid’s Paul Connor predicted Suárez would betray Seattle and sign a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Suárez is projected to sign for $72 million this offseason, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic.

Seattle Mariners infielder Eugenio Suárez

“Power surge (49 HR), but .298 OBP and declining defense; short-term value as aging slugger,” Connor wrote.

The Pirates have shockingly been very aggressive this offseason. They swung a trade for slugger Brandon Lowe from the Tampa Bay Rays before agreeing to a deal with free agent slugger Ryan O’Hearn.

Now the Pirates could add one of the best sluggers in the game on a two or three-year deal to continue their potential playoff push.

Suárez is a potential 40-home run slugger each season. The Pirates lack power in their lineup in a huge way. Adding Lowe and O’Hearn certainly helps the team, but signing Suárez would put a cherry on top of a huge offseason in Pittsburgh.
