Despite clinching the best record not only in the National League but the entire MLB this past season, the Milwaukee Brewers entered the playoffs with high hopes. However, the lives of the Brewers were short-lived, and they were swept out of the National League Championship Series by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

*PREDICTION*

Now in the offseason, the Brewers front office has been looking for ways to improve the team, while also not breaking the bank. Milwaukee doesn’t typically enter into high-priced free agency, so any moves that will upgrade the roster will likely come from the trade front.

But how the Brewers go about things remains to be seen, especially since the team operates in such a unique way. However, this core in place can win the World Series if given the chance by the front office.

Joe Ryan Traded to Milwaukee Brewers

For most of the MLB offseason, insiders across the league have expected the Brewers to cut salary and make adjustments to the roster. But due to the success that Milwaukee saw a year ago, it makes more sense to add to this team, giving them a better chance to win the World Series.

One way for Milwaukee to make this happen could be to address the starting rotation by adding another quality arm next to ace Freddy Peralta. There are plenty of strong trade candidates for this Brewers’ front office to consider, with right-hander Joe Ryan being one of the better options.

Ryan, who is currently with the Minnesota Twins, has been on the trade block for some time now. Minnesota almost moved him at the trade deadline this year, but the team held off to see if they could get a better return during the offseason.

The right-hander is coming off a career season with the Twins, putting up an ERA of 3.42, a 1.04 WHIP, while striking out 10.2 batters per nine innings. Ryan is also under team control for a few more seasons, making it more likely that Minnesota will receive a strong trade package for his services.

Milwaukee could look to pair Ryan with Peralta for next season, giving itself one of the better one-two punches that the sport has to offer. This would be a dynamic duo for a playoff series, and the Brewers would be in much stronger shape to win next season.

Ryan would also be an insurance option for the Brewers since Peralta can become a free agent after this coming season. If Milwaukee doesn’t want to pay him what it will take to keep him around long-term, Ryan could then slot in as the ace of the pitching staff.

Overall, the Brewers should be looking to upgrade the roster, not cut down the talent, as they go after a title. This team has the tools to win it all, and adding someone like Ryan could help push them over the top in the National League.
