It has been a tough offseason for the New York Mets, and it seems that the fanbase has gotten a little testy with the front office. After losing both star closer Edwin Diaz and slugger Pete Alonso to free agency, the Mets’ roster has a lot more holes in it to address.

*PREDICTION*

The front office has some work to do this winter if they want the team to be more competitive next season. New York missed the playoffs entirely during the 2025 season, despite having one of the highest payrolls in baseball.

So far, the approach from the Mets this offseason has been more of a cautious one, with the team looking to change the culture of the organization. But these Mets can’t be too patient, especially after signing star outfielder Juan Soto to a record contract last winter.

Eugenio Suarez Will Sign With New York Mets

As the Mets’ brass looks for different ways to improve this roster, one option could be improving the offensive attack. Veteran infielder Eugenio Suarez could be an intriguing option for the Mets, and after all the changes from this winter, it could make some sense.

Suarez split time between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners this past season, and he was one of the more feared hitters in the league. His time with the Diamondbacks was much more successful, however, as he slashed .248/.320/.576 with 36 home runs and 87 runs batted in.

Seattle traded for his services at the deadline, but his numbers quickly dropped. Following the move to Seattle, Suarez only hit 196/.255/.428, hitting 13 home runs with 31 runs batted in.

New York is looking for a new culture on the roster, and Suarez could be part of this. Suarez would reunite with Jorge Polanco, who signed with the Mets earlier this winter, and the two could give this team a boost.

The two players helped the Mariners get within one game of the World Series this past season, and they could look to do the same with New York. New York has to make some changes to the roster, and after losing some key players, Suarez could be a steal of a signing by the front office.

Even with some of the concerns that Suarez has, there aren’t many players in baseball who can hit almost 50 home runs in a season. The Mets could use more power in the lineup, especially after losing Alonso this offseason, and the team could transition Suarez over to being a full-time designated hitter at some point.

Overall, the pairing could make a lot of sense, with New York gaining some real pop to the lineup going forward. The Mets have the money to spend, and Suarez could call Citi Field his home for the foreseeable future.
