Brendan Donovan

The St. Louis Cardinals had already made a flurry of trades this MLB offseason, sending both Willson Contreras and Sonny Gray to the Boston Red Sox. New president of baseball operations for the Cardinals in Chaim Bloom, alluded to this being the case this offseason, and he has certainly made good on his word. While they have made trades, they still have one big one looming to make, and that is Brendan Donovan.

*Prediction*

There should be many teams interested in trading for Brendan Donovan due to his versatility, but the one team that makes sense to emerge as the team to trade for him is the Cleveland Guardians.

The Cleveland Guardians have made it known that this offseason they plan to address their outfield and are looking to get better production from this area in 2026, as outside of Steven Kwan, the production from the outfield was extremely poor in 2025.

The Guardians also need to find a way to fix their offense, as they had one of the worst units in 2025, and when they made the playoffs, it ended up costing them in the end. To solve both their offensive issues, as well as fixing their outfield, they can look to trade for Brendan Donovan.

For a Guardians’ offense that ranked 29th in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage last season, adding someone like Brendan Donovan who is coming off a 2025 season in which he had a .287/.353/.422 slash line with 10 home runs and 52 runs batted in, it is clear that he would provide a much-needed boost.

With him just scratching the surface of his potential with entering his fifth season in MLB, plus having the versatility in the outfield to play all three spots as well as second base and third, Brendan Donovan has the upside and potential to be the missing piece the Guardians need to start becoming true contenders once again.
