The 64th annual Reading Hot Stovers Banquet will feature three former Philadelphia Phillies as the speakers.
The banquet is Jan. 15 at the Double Tree by Hilton in Reading. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $95 and can be purchased at www.readinghotstoversbaseball.com.
The former Phillies who will speak at the annual event are Von Hayes, Bob Dernier and Doug Glanville.
Hayes, an outfielder and first baseman, played 12 years in the majors for Cleveland, the Phillies and the Angels. He was part of the infamous 5 for 1 trade the Phillies made to get him. Among the players the Phillies traded for Hayes were Manny Trillo, Julio Franco and Jay Baller. Hayes managed the Lancaster Barnstormers in 2008.
Dernier played 10 years in the majors with the Cubs and Phillies. He played in the 1984 World Series with the Cubs on a team that included Ryne Sandberg, Larry Bowa and Dennis Eckersley. Dernier played for Reading in 1980.
Glanville, who was from Teaneck N.J. and went to the University of Pennsylvania, played outfield for 8 seasons in the majors, and was with the Cubs, Rangers and Phillies. He was the 12th pick in the 1991 Draft and is now a baseball analyst for ESPN.
Along with the speakers, the scholarship winners and award winners will be honored.
