LSU infielder Michael Braswell III signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Royals.
The right-hander has signed with the Royals as a pitcher. Braswell III played both shortstop and third base in his two seasons with the Tigers.
The signing creates an obstacle for the Tigers as they will now be without their third baseman. LSU Baseball Head Coach Jay Johnson and his staff will need to look elsewhere on their roster with Tanner Reaves playing second baseman and the absence of Braswell III.Â
Braswell III was a key piece to the Tigers’ team that won the national championship in 2025.Â
In his final season as a Tiger, Braswell III started 48 of the 65 games he appeared in. As LSU’s primary third baseman, Braswell III posted an impressive stat line of six doubles, two home runs, 18 RBIs and 20 runs. His impressive play also led to him setting a school record for team fielding percentage at .981.
The Royals finished 82-80 in 2025 and ultimately missed the playoffs. Braswell III hopes to be a key piece for a team that struggled at times with its pitching rotation this past season, which played a factor in them missing the postseason.Â
