New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor is making headlines this weekend for something that has nothing to do with his skills on the diamond.
Lindor, a five-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner, has been with the Mets since the 2021 season. He agreed to a 10-year, $341 million contract extension prior to making his debut in Queens. So far, he has lived up to the contract. In 2024, he powered the Mets to the playoffs by batting .273 with 33 homers and 91 RBIs.

Earlier this month, WFAN legend Mike Francesa reported that Lindor had beef with former Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo due to their political differences.
“The Nimmo-Lindor thing, my understanding, was political. Had to do with Trump. One side liked Trump, one side didn’t like Trump,” Francesa said. “So, Trump splitting up the Mets between Nimmo and Lindor. That’s my understanding, that it started over Trump, as crazy as that sounds.”
Lindor hasn’t responded to this report from Francesa, but it did pick up some steam this weekend.

Lindor’s wife, Katia Reguero Lindor, isn’t afraid to talk about politics. She expressed her support for Zohran Mamdani leading up to the mayoral election.
“Supporting politicians who fight for immigrants, artists, workers, and everyone who deserves a dignified life – isn’t against my interests, even if I’m in a different economic position,” she wrote, via the New York Post. “P.S. Your enemies aren’t the immigrants- they’re the one-percenters hoarding the wealth while leaving you without basic needs.”

Well, it’s being reported Lindor’s wife is part of Mamdani’s inaugural committee. She has not yet commented on this career decision.
“I’m honored to be joined by some of the most creative and experienced minds in the city as we build an inauguration that is truly by and for New Yorkers,” Mamdani said in a statement.
Fans turning on Francisco Lindor.
“Mets should have kept Alonso and traded Lindor,” one person suggested.
“Lindor jersey sales just tanked,” another person declared.

“Officially done with the NY Mets,” a social media user commented.
“I hope the Mets trade this guy,” a fan said. “Locker room problem.”
“Get Lindor off my team,” another Mets fan wrote on X.
There are plenty of other harsh remarks about Lindor being aired out on social media.
We’ll see if Lindor addresses all this political drama before Opening Day 2026.
