The New York Yankees have to figure out their final outfield spot. Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge are locked in for another year, but Cody Bellinger could be re-signed, or another outfielder could join the roster.

But, they also could turn to Jasson Dominguez for that final spot. While Dominguez breaking out in 2026 would be ideal, he might not be the breakout top prospect the Yankees get in 2026.

Brayn Hoch of MLB.com named Spencer Jones as a candidate for the Yankees’ Opening Day roster. But why does Jones have a shot for the Opening Day roster? It’s a simple answer: his power is incredibly appealing.

Yankees’ Spencer Jones has ‘legitimate’ chance to make Opening Day Yankees roster

“With light-tower power and improved consistency,” Hoch writes, “Jones is knocking on the big league door with a legitimate chance to force his way onto the Opening Day roster.”

Jones was mentioned by Hoch among each team’s most intriguing prospects to watch for the 2026 season. This nomination from Hoch makes a lot of sense.

The 24-year-old left-handed slugger could fill in that final outfield spot and provide some incredibly high-upside power to the Yankees’ lineup.

While Judge and Giancarlo Stanton make it so the Yankees don’t need to add someone with such power, Jones could be a great complement to the lineup with power later in the order.

This past season, Jones hit .274 with a .933 OPS between Triple-A and Double-A. In 116 total games, he hit 35 home runs with 80 RBIs, 58 walks, and 179 strikeouts.

His strikeout issues are the main thing that could hold him back from making an impact at the Major League level. But a strong Spring Training could turn him into a must-have on the Opening Day roster for the Yankees.

Even if he platoons with another hitter, getting Jones’ power into the lineup is incredibly appealing for the Yankees or any team.

He has been mentioned in trade talks as well, especially if Bellinger comes back. But, for now, Jones looks to be the most interesting prospect in the Yankees organization, and he has a chance to break into the Majors this season.
