Bryce Harper

Things seem to be heading in a negative direction when it comes to Bryce Harper and the Philadelphia Phillies’ organization’s relationship. Earlier in the offseason, in Dave Dombrowski’s end-of-season conference, he made a very telling comment with Bryce Harper by saying, “He’s a really good player, right? He still is a good player. Is he elite like he was before? Probably not to the same extent.”

*Prediction*

Those “not elite” comments seem to have stuck with Bryce Harper, as he just recently posted a batting practice video with him wearing a shirt with those exact words on it.

With tensions continuing between Bryce Harper and the organization, the Phillies need to start weighing the option of trading Harper to get a return needed to propel the team forward. If Philadelphia makes Harper available, many teams will be interested, but the one team that makes the most sense to acquire him is the New York Mets.

Philadelphia Phillies Trade Bryce Harper to the New York Mets

It might seem bizarre that the Philadelphia Phillies could trade Bryce Harper to their rival in the New York Mets, but the Mets have the prospects to make this deal truly attractive enough for the Phillies to go forward with it.

The Mets also have a need at first base. They ended up signing Jorge Polanco and stated he would play there, and while he has the versatility with playing multiple infield spots, he also doesn’t have more than one game in which he played at first base. Instead, the Mets should look to have Polanco play elsewhere, and look for a different first base solution after the departure of Pete Alonso.

The Mets would need to put together a haul, but after just signing Juan Soto last offseason, it is clear they aren’t afraid of going aggressive, and need to do so again if they are going to make sure they don’t miss the playoffs again. By trading for Bryce Harper, they would get a player that solves their first base void, while also providing a boost to their batting lineup.

Bryce Harper is coming off a season in which he had a .261/.357/.487 slash line with 27 home runs and 75 runs batted in, with his offensive ability he is able to still provide at 33 years old, Harper would be the spark they need with Soto in the lineup to show how serious they are as contenders.
