CINCINNATI: The Cincinnati Reds have bolstered their outfield by acquiring Dane Myers from the Miami Marlins in a trade that sends Ethan O’Donnell to Miami, the teams announced Saturday.
Myers has appeared in 172 total games across three seasons for Miami, recording 10 home runs, 59 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases with a .245 batting average, .299 on-base percentage, and .354 slugging percentage.
The 29-year-old has experience at all three outfield spots, including logging 68 games (58 starts) in center field last season.
Baseball Savant ranks him in the 97th percentile in arm strength and 75th percentile in range.
O’Donnell was ranked as the Reds’ No. 18 prospect by MLB Pipeline. He was a sixth-round pick in the 2023 draft.
Last season, he posted seven home runs, 56 RBIs, and 20 steals with a .236 batting average for Double-A Chattanooga.
President of baseball operations, Nick Krall, explained that the team quickly pursued Dane Myers because his strong hitting, especially against left-handed pitchers, and solid defense in center field make him a valuable addition.
“We’re going to try to improve the rest of the offseason. I think we want to figure out if there’s a way to get better,” Krall said.
“The Dane Myers thing came up last night and we just felt like it was something we just wanted to jump on.
“He’s average-to-above in center field. Over the last three years, he’s hit .297 against left-handed pitching and a .360 on-base [percentage]. We really think he can help that group.”
